About The Site Builder
So, you’re probably wondering, by now, how I got so hooked on writing this series, anyway. It’d been a while since I’d written any poems and stories, (a little over a year,) and I became inspired by many things; dreams I've had from childhood, and to this day, my arts and crafts, the process of building a web site, daily activities, places I’d been to within the year, my tapes and cds, and internet radio. Many of my dreams have shaped some of the special effects, such as "the tipping of transporters. In many of these dreams, I'll be listening to music on a radio, and something will happen to either increase the volume or make an interesting magnification in some effect of the reception, at which point I usually awaken, hence the transporter tipping. The friendly V-dragons, who appear much later in the series, were also from my dreams, and I built on their characteristics; they are not reptiles, but mammals, which are part of zoomwood's folklore. .The music I listen to, including one of my newly discovered favorite stations, especially inspires the shaping of many of the characters in my on going series; both the favorite songs by some of my favorite singers, and also, ironically, some whose content I don’t agree with. Then, there are some whose songs vary; they portray a good character in some, and a bad character in others. These have inspired double roles for some of my characters.
Ironically, it was one of the characters portrayed in one of the songs that I didn’t agree with, that really got me started with this series. My immediate first thought was, “Boy, he sure is good at singing the role of the very kind of a father whose conservative philosophy I don’t agree with. Why, he’s going to drive the daughter away for good,” and that set off the spark for The Site Builder
Another important character who appears later in the series, Annette Jenkins, came about by two things; a doll that I bought at Wal Greens, and one of the singers who inspired a double role, though mostly good. Annette is the good twin who is adopted out under doctors’ orders, so that she can receive the necessary corrective surgery on her feet, and the expensive shoes she will need, in order to walk. It is through the news paper route, that Annette gets to know her true related family, and the two families, (her adoptive family and the family of Nicole, The Site Builder,) grow stronger together. It’s easy to love Annette Jenkins; she has a natural knack for bringing people together through her loving nature and her determination to participate in activities and strive for the better, and when she meets Aunt Norma, of The Site Builder’s family, these traits are brought out even more in both of them and grows in the members of both families. This becomes increasingly important, as it will require Annette being there to face the challenges with Nicole’s family in order that Wilma, (at first, the bad twin, ironically the one that Clarence, the father should have been more concerned about,) will have a chance to start on a clean slate. As Nicole, Annette, and all the members of both families grow together and meet, yet more friends and relatives who'll work with them to face the ever winding challenges and twists ahead of them, in order to find and to save their loved ones in Zoomwood, among other events,I hope you can take some time to enjoy The Site Builder. The series is posted on three blog pages that I've also built, and whose links will be included on the links page, along with links to some of my favorite radio stations and other important favorite links. Due to the length of this series, it will be in several parts, as it will not fit in one article on this site. I also plan to include some of my other poems and stories, and I hope to include some photos of some of my activities and of places I've been. Enjoy! |
